One critically injured in 'serious incident' at Whangārei reserve

One person has been critically injured in a shooting at a waterfront reserve in Whangārei this morning.

Police received a report of a person injured at Beach Road Reserve in Onerahi at around 11.10am.

St John said three ambulances, one operations manager and one rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene.

"One patient, in a critical condition, was transported to Northland Base Hospital by ambulance."

A witness told 1News the incident was a shooting.

Beach Rd has been closed from Church Rd and police advised motorists to avoid the area.

"There are cordons in the area and locals are asked to respect these until the incident is resolved," a police spokesperson said.

Police said further information would be provided when it was available.
