Dame Jacinda Ardern will be releasing a children's book in September based on things her daughter Neve said to her while she was prime minister.

In an announcement posted to Facebook on Thursday morning, Ardern shared the title of her new book - Mum's Busy Work - which is told through the eyes of a child.

Ardern told her followers she began to work on the book while writing her "valedictory to leave parliament".

"I wanted to do anything other than write that speech, and so I ended up writing this instead."

Kiwi illustrator Ruby Jones has done the artwork for the book, which will be released in September.

For every copy sold in New Zealand Ardern will be donating $3 to The Kindness Collection, "to support what they are doing with whānau and kids in Aotearoa New Zealand".

"I hope it just really captures that no matter what we are doing, no matter what roles we have, just that incredible love that we have for our kids."

The book is being published through Penguin Random House which describes the book as celebrating the "relationship between working mothers and their children".

"Mum’s Busy Work shows how even when apart the love between a parent and their child is unquestionable."

This is not the only book Ardern is releasing this year - A Different Kind of Power: A Memoir by Jacinda Ardern is set for international release on June 3.
