Two missing, one pulled from water after boat capsizes off Taranaki

Two people are missing and one person has been pulled from the water after a boat capsized off the coast of Pātea in South Taranaki this morning.

Police were notified that a boat had capsized about 200m offshore with three people on board at around 10.15am.

"One person has been located in the water and is receiving treatment," a spokesperson said.

"A search is underway to locate the two missing people."

Coastguard South Taranaki volunteers were responding to the incident, police added.

St John said one ambulance, one manager, and one helicopter responded to the incident.

No information about patients was available as the incident was still ongoing, a St John spokesperson said.

Fire and Emergency NZ responded with crews from Pātea and Waverley.

Coastguard have been approached for comment.
